Turn Your LMS into a Competency-Based Education (CBE) Tool
Competency-Based Education (CBE) and Competency-Based Learning (CBL) are leading-edge methods of learning that focus on student competencies as opposed to purely course-based method of education. In a CBE model, students are required to fulfill a list of competencies at various levels, while in a traditional course-based model students fulfill their degree requirements by completing a set of courses. There are several advantages to CBE that are subject to several studies, that we may address in other publications.
RCampus has lead the education industry in rubric-based and authentic assessments and was the first LMS to introduce integrated rubrics for assessments. In our efforts to continue our lead in education technologies, RCampus is introducing our integrated method for converting any learning management system into a competency based education system.
What you need:
You need any LTI-enabled LMS which includes most modern LMS solutions or use RCampus LMS. Then you’ll need a license from us. Please contact info@rcampus.com to schedule a demo or inquire about licensing.
How it works:
RCampus follows your students over the years of their study and at any point can display their full list of competencies, their progress level, for any number of programs and degrees that they are enrolled in or qualified for.
How it benefits your institution and students:
Institutions get a completely different view of their students. It’s not from traditional transcript view that shows what courses a student has taken and their grades, but what competencies (outcome/proficiencies) they have achieved, at what level, what’s missing, and how they can succeed and broaden their competency level at various mastery levels. In addition, institutions can review students’ competencies at institutional, program-level, and course-level, and modify their curriculum to increase student success in both their academic life and future careers.
With real-time dashboards, students and their advisors can have a quick and deep view of students’ competency levels and journey over time. Students can monitor their own progress, learn what they are missing and what they need to complete their requirements, even what other degrees and certificates they qualify for, hence, increasing their potential. Advisors can do all of that at a click of a button, providing quality review and advisement sessions.
